Johannes Trapl, Carnuntum

A Spitzerberg love affair

Johannes Trapl is a purist seeking to express the authentic character of the wines of his home region Carnuntum, about 40km east of Vienna. Most of his vines were planted by his grandfather and are deeply rooted in the limestone, loess, gravel and clay soils. The small Spitzerberg sub-region with ist slate-dominated soil offers the possibility to produce Blaufraenkisch with unique character and finesse. Johannes’ credo is: „I want to feel the variety, finesse and power inherent in our vineyards – and bring as much of them as possible into the wine, with a good degree of lightness and maximum drinkability!“
