Carnuntum, situated between the “twin cities” Vienna and Bratislava is one of the most dynamic wine regions in Europe. What has not changed is Walter Glatzer’s uncompromising drive for quality which results in numerous awards. He was one of the first to believe in the capability of the vineyards to excel and therefore essential in developing the style of Carnuntum wines and inspiring other young winemakers in the area. Walter stands for fruit-driven elegant wines with silky tannins and mild acidity which offer drinking pleasure with substance. While many winemakers used a lot of new oak and sought more concentration in their wines, Walter stuck to his credo, “Typical regional character and terroir cannot be expressed in extremely tannic and heavily oaked wines.” Because the region is dominated by the warm Pannonian climate, nearly 70% of the estate’s 50 hectares are planted with red wines, mainly Zweigelt, but also Blaufränkisch and Sankt Laurent. His portfolio offers wines for every occasion. The classic, fruit driven Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, Zweigelt, Sankt Laurent and Blaufränkisch form the foundation. The reserve series includes Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt Rubin. The Veltliner and Zweigelt named Dornenvogel represent selections from the best grapes. The premium range is represented by the single vineyard wine Sankt Laurent Altenberg and the flagship blend Gotinsprun, a tribute to the old name of Walter’s hometown Göttlesbrunn.
